Jessica Liesmann was driving with her son in her 2005 Nissan Quest on Wednesday afternoon when she was hit from behind by an armed robbery suspect fleeing from police in a stolen Dodge Challenger. Out of fear and a bit of rage, the Arby’s restaurant employee turned quickly to her 13- year-old son to check if he was OK. Full of anger, because she was hit in a school zone, “Mama Bear” as she is now referred to, jumped out of the car yanked the driver out of the car and held him until police arrived.
After the accident, the Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics strapped the boy onto a gurney and transported him to the hospital.
However, the story doesn’t end there. Ms. Liesmann recently lost her 4-year-old son in August due to a medical condition. Also, her van was her family’s sole means of transportation. After the news of the altercation going public, and “Mamma Bear’s” impending need for help, Southwest Kia with locations in Mesquite, Rockwall and Dallas jumped to the rescue providing her a choice of a new vehicle.
Bill Dickason offered Mamma Bear a choice of a brand new Soul, Sorento or Sedona. Ms. Liesmann feeling very overwhelmed and blessed chose the Sedona which will now replace her totaled vehicle.
“I believe God makes everything happen for a reason. I’m assuming the reason was to run him into the right person who would stop him from causing more damage. It actually turned out to be a happy ending for this story, thank God.” Ms. Liesmann shared in a phone interview with The Dallas Morning News.
Southwest Kia is known for its generosity in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. They are proud supporters of first responders, police and fire fighters organizations as well as a major contributor for Toys for Tots.
“I am proud to be part of an organization that looks for ways to give back to society and it is a special day when we can help someone who is in need” states James Seale, General Manager of Southwest Kia Mesquite.
